New solution expected to help triple production volumes, expand market opportunities for growing EMS.

September 30, 2019 – REDCOM EMS, a business unit of REDCOM Laboratories, Inc., has installed a second high-speed Universal Instruments Fuzion® production line at its manufacturing facility in Victor, N.Y. The new line consists of a Fuzion2-60™ and Fuzion2-37™ Platform and complements the company’s existing Fuzion line of the same configuration. The expanded manufacturing capacity is necessary to keep up with REDCOM EMS’s sustained double-digit growth over the past few years. With the added equipment and capabilities, REDCOM EMS is better positioned to meet the demands of both current and prospective customers.

The Fuzion line offers up to 264 8mm feeder inputs, while handling a component range from 01005 to 150mm square. It will also accommodate board sizes up to 508mm x 1016mm. In addition, Fuzion Platform software ensures a fast and precise NPI process to maximize yields and expedite time to market.

REDCOM began offering electronics manufacturing services out of the company’s headquarters in 2012 under the REDCOM EMS name. Before starting the contract manufacturing business, REDCOM used its factory solely for the production of its telephony hardware. REDCOM EMS continues to manufacture circuit boards, cable assemblies, and system assemblies for REDCOM’s telecommunications systems, but the vast majority of its business now comes from contract manufacturing for other OEMs.

The REDCOM EMS factory previously had three SMT lines – two low-volume and one high-volume Fuzion line – placing approximately 50,000 components per hour, real throughput. With the addition of the new high-speed line and their commitment to workforce development, REDCOM EMS will significantly improve on these numbers.

“With the growth that we’ve seen in the last few years, we knew it was time to invest in our manufacturing facility. This dual Fuzion SMT line will allow us to meet our customer’s demands today while preparing us for future opportunities,” remarked Steve Husband, Vice President of Manufacturing and General Manager, REDCOM EMS. “We believe the Fuzion solution will enable us to boost our production volumes by as much as 3x, which is critical as we expand into new markets such as aerospace and medical. Fuzion also gives us the flexibility to build a wide range of products while streamlining New Product Introduction.”

“We’re happy to be partnering with and supporting REDCOM EMS – a company that’s been very successful right here in our own backyard,” said Universal Instruments Vice President of Customer Operations, Brad Bennett. “By using Fuzion as the foundation of their production, they will easily be able to meet dynamic volume ramp requirements, as well as entertain quite a variety of customer opportunities, regardless of product complexity.”
