Alliance with industry-leading LED lighting manufacturer helps fortify Universal as a leading SMT equipment provider to the LED market.

October 22, 2013 – Universal Instruments announced it has been acknowledged by Cree, Inc. — a market-leading innovator of lighting-class LEDs, LED lighting, and semiconductor products for power and radio-frequency applications — as an official Cree LED Solution Provider. Universal is one of the first manufacturers of pick-and-place products to join the Cree LED Solution Provider Program, further enabling the company to offer leading-edge SMT LED technology.

As a result of this alliance, Universal’s Production Tooling Group has created a dedicated website at www.uic-tooling.com/cree that presents a full array of Cree LED nozzles, LED feeders, and other application elements necessary for optimal performance with the latest Cree XLamp® LEDs. Experts from Cree and Universal work together on current and newly released products and Universal’s team regularly updates the site with new application information.

“Universal’s relationship with Cree enables us to take a significant leap forward with our LED pick-and-place technologies, helping to position us as a market leader in this segment,” explained Justin Poet, general manager, Universal Instruments Production Tooling Group. “SMT LED applications pose unique challenges,” he added, “but by leveraging the knowledge gained working with Cree, Universal is able to take a consultative approach with our customers and provide the most current and comprehensive solutions to ensure their success.”

“We welcome Universal Instruments to our global Cree Solution Provider network and are extremely pleased to work with a company that is well-positioned to deliver exceptional value to LED lighting manufacturers,” noted Cree’s Director of Alliance Development, David Cox.

Poet commented further, stating, “Being invited to be a Cree LED Solution Provider validates that Universal is on the cutting edge of LED technology. We are investing in its future and working with top LED manufacturers like Cree as we strive to deliver outstanding solutions not only to our established high-volume LED customers, but also to those customers who are just venturing into the LED pick-and-place arena.”
